At the COP28 climate conference, Ukraine joined the Climate Club, an international platform for exchanging views to decarbonize industry and boost collective action around the world.

Ukraine has become the 37th country to join the club, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources reports on Facebook.

Stefan Wenzel, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany, the country that co-chairs the Climate Club, emphasized that only those economies that are on the path of transformation to zero greenhouse gas emissions will be successful in the future. And this success depends on cooperation.

"Joining the Climate Club is our contribution to an important dialogue regarding the preservation of natural resources and decarbonization. Only together can we create an ecologically clean and sustainable future for future generations," Viktoriya Kireeva said.

The Climate Club is open to countries to help achieve climate neutrality goals. Its creation was announced leaders of the member countries of the "Great Seven" (G7) in June 2022. The current members of the club together represent more than 55% of the world economy. They recognize that in order to keep global warming within 1.5°C, it is necessary to decarbonize industrial sectors that are difficult to reduce emissions

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that that in December, the European Union and 35 countries officially opened the Climate Club – an inclusive platform to support effective decarbonization of industry.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, at the COP28 climate conference, 118 governments promised to triple the global capacity of renewable sources of energy by 2030 and abandon fossil fuels by 2050.
