1,000 liters of nitric acid spilled onto the track in Poltava region

The accident was eliminated by 21 rescuers with the help of 6 units of equipment

In Poltava Oblast, 1 m3 of nitric acid was spilled in the Kremenchutsky District due to depressurization of a container with a dangerous chemical substance.

The acid has begun to evaporate, reports the Main Directorate of the DSNS of Ukraine in the Poltava region.

It is noted that the accident happened near the village of Semenivka. Rescuers carried out deposition of a chemically dangerous cloud.

The message said that the spill site was washed with a large amount of water and isolated with air-mechanical foam. Work was also carried out on the collapse and neutralization of the spill site with sand.

The press service added that 21 rescuers and 6 pieces of equipment were involved in the liquidation of the accident, in particular employees and equipment of the department of radiation, chemical, biological protection of the Special Emergency Rescue Unit of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Poltava region.

As you know, nitric acid vapors can cause severe burns to the eyes, skin, respiratory tract and digestive organs. In addition, with mild poisoning, signs of bronchitis, mild bronchiolitis, dizziness, drowsiness appear, and with severe – pulmonary edema.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in 2021 on the territory of PJSC "Rayagrohim" near the city of Nemyriv in the Vinnytsia region, a depressurization of a railway tank occurred, which led to a leak of anhydrous ammonia.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in April 2022, in Rubizhnye, Luhansk region, Russian troops hit a tank with nitric acid.
