1,615 air samples were analyzed at the observatory

During the week of November 6-11, the average daily maximum permissible concentrations of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen were found to be 2.4 times higher than the maximum permissible concentrations in the air in Kyiv.

Compared to the previous week, the content of sulfur dioxide slightly increased, according to the weekly air pollution report from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the observatory, the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of nitrogen dioxide was exceeded by the average daily content:

  • by 1.9-2.4 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Beresteyski and Obolonski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • in 1.6-2.4 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Beresteyski and Obolonski avenues, Lesia Ukrainka boulevard, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets ;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 1.5-2.0 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Beresteyski and Obolonski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, Akademika Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska and Semena Sklyarenko streets .

The observatory's specialists collected and analyzed 1615 air samples from 16 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, on November 14, a container with 20 kg of mercury was found in Kyiv's Darnytsia district, which was left near the railway tracks.
