Deputies of the Kyiv City Council approved the "Green City" Action Plan of 20 measures to adapt to climate change and solve environmental problems.

Implementation of the plan will require about 2.5 billion euros, the press service of Kyiv City Council reports.

Mykola Povoroznyk, First Deputy Chairman of the KMDA, said that the package contains developed measures in the field of:

  • sustainable urban mobility;
  • energy efficiency;
  • water supply and drainage;
  • waste management;
  • preservation of the environment and biodiversity;
  • digitization of urban economy;
  • data management.

It is noted that sources of financing can be funds from the city budget, international financial organizations, or private capital investments.

The press service said that the plan was developed with the support of international companies, the public, scientists, educators, business representatives, etc. as part of the European Bank's "Green Cities" reconstruction and development program.

"More than 120 organizations took part in the consultations. More than 200 proposals and comments were processed in accordance with the procedures of the Strategic Environmental Assessment. Public organizations, state institutions, the EBRD and, most importantly, citizens who support the transformation of Kyiv into an environmentally conscious and " smart" city," said Povoroznyk.

He also added that the full-scale invasion made it necessary to update the actually prepared document. Yes, it provides energy efficiency measures, the necessity of which is dictated by the present. In particular, about:

  • equipment of district boiler rooms with alternative sources of electric power, operating on different types of fuel;
  • installation of additional equipment for cogeneration of heat and electricity;
  • purchase of mobile boiler rooms for emergency heat supply.

It is noted that work on the plan has been ongoing since 2019.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that three temperature records were set in Kyiv on August 27, in particular, the average daily air temperature exceeded the climatic norm by 8.0°C.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, cooling spray frames were installed in Kyiv in June, which will help the citizens to bear the summer heat more comfortably.
