Complete waste processing takes 1 week

Quail farm owner closed loop "Nikolai" Mykola Kuzmenko said that thanks to the biogas plant on the farm, bird droppings are processed into 200 m3 of gas every day.

On the farm closed cycle in Zhytomyr Oblast is also produced about 10 tons of valuable organic fertilizers suitable for use in organic farming, he said in an interview for Agribusiness today.

Kuzmenko noted that he started developing the installation in in 2000, built in 2007, and launched in 2014. Its peculiarity is that it works continuously. The installation works according to the scheme of double fermentation – first the preliminary acid fermentation, and then the main process. Complete waste processing takes a week.

"Large installations have such a design that they are forced to stop to clean the reactors. I designed our methane tank so that it is self-cleaning, he said. "In a year, it will be 10 years since it has been working continuously."

The farmer explained that thanks to his own generation, the farm is fully self-sufficient in electricity during blackouts.

Kuzmenko emphasized that Fr the main purpose of the biogas plant is the rapid processing of quail droppings. After all, the farm is located in a suburban strip near Zhytomyr, and therefore there was an urgent need for efficient processing of organic waste.

"A large part of the biogas is spent on maintaining the temperature regime in the installation itself. We also use it in the smokehouse, he added. – Quail poultry meat is smoked on biogas, which is made from quail droppings. Such a closed cycle!"

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that "Vinnytsia Poultry Factory" will receive a $30 million loan for the modernization of the biogas plant in the village of Vasylivka and the production of liquefied biomethane.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Ukrainian waste management company is implementing a project with the Danone Ukraine company to recycle expired dairy products and baby food into biofuel.
