In the Volyn region, employees of the Kovel district administration exposed a 27-year-old resident of the village of Gulivka in illegal logging.

This is reported by the press service of the State Police of the Volyn region. It is noted that the man was engaged in this business more than once.

"During the authorized search of the place of residence of a Volyn resident, a large amount of wood, illegally obtained money was seized, in addition, the police found an AK-74 assault rifle, not legally registered, and cartridges for it," the report said.

Everything found during the search was sent for examination to the Volyn scientific-research expert-forensic center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Based on this fact, criminal proceedings were initiated under Art. 246 and 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. It is about illegal felling or illegal transportation, storage, sale of forest and illegal handling of weapons and ammunition. The investigation is ongoing.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in July the Kharkiv City Council announced the start of a public discussion of the report from the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the complete felling of 19.5 hectares of the Zhikhor forest for sand mining on an industrial scale. This is the last coniferous forest in Kharkiv.
