The content of toxic substances in the air of Kryvyi Rih has halved

Air pollution index decreased by 21%

In Kryvyi Rih in June, the average monthly concentrations of dust, dioxide and nitrogen oxide decreased by 50%, compared to the same period in 2022.

The concentration of dust also decreased from 2 parts of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) to 1.33, according to the website of the Kryvyi Rih City Council and its executive committee.

The research was carried out by specialists of the Laboratory of Air Pollution Observations in the city of Kryvyi Rih.

The report emphasized that the concentration of formaldehyde also decreased by 33%. The content of other pollutants, in particular phenol (0.67), ammonia (0.25), carbon monoxide (0.33), did not change.

It is noted that compared to June 2022, the air pollution index decreased by 21%, i.e. from 13.42 to 10.56.

The message added that in the first half of 2023, compared to the first half of 2022, average quarterly concentrations decreased:

  • nitric oxide by 40%;
  • dust and nitrogen dioxide – 33%;
  • formaldehyde – 27%;
  • sulfur dioxide – 5%.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Kryvorizka district in the Ingulets and Saksagan rivers, three-fold excesses of the maximum allowable concentrations according to chemical and sanitary-microbiological indicators were found.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kryvyi Rih in 2022, the volume of emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air reached 65.8 thousand tons, which is 71% less than in 2021. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih PJSC became the biggest polluter, accounting for 88.5% of the total emissions.
