Members of the Assembly will cooperate for the long-term safe operation of radioactive waste management facilities

Representatives Norway and Great Britain announced the transfer of €5 million to support the development of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

This happened at the meeting of the Assembly of Contributors to the International Cooperation Account for Chernobyl, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the participants of the event agreed to continue cooperation in order to:

  • accelerating the signing of the Framework Agreement between Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to finance measures to restore safe conditions in the Chernobyl exclusion zone and radioactive waste management facilities;
  • support for long-term safe operation of such facilities.

"Ukraine thanks the representatives of each country that is a contributor to the International Fund for Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and separately Norway and Great Britain for supporting the development of the Exclusion Zone and effective support of our state in the fight against the aggressor state," said Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi .

The report said that representatives of the European Commission, the International Atomic Energy Agency, Belgium, Germany, the USA, France and other countries also took part in the meeting of the Assembly.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrtoe, that Ukraine received €15 million for the reconstruction of the Chernobyl zone from international donors, and the total receipts should reach €225 million.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers registered in the Verkhovna Rada draft law No. 9338 "On the development of territories exposed to radioactive contamination as a result of the Chernobyl disaster." This sets the stage for turning the Zone of Exclusion into the Zone of Rebirth.
