Mykolaiv may be left without water supply

Vitalii Kim, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, said that a serious environmental problem will arise in the region in 2-3 weeks due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP.

One of the reasons will be the mixing of sea and fresh water in the Kinburn spit and Ochakov, News N reports.

Kim emphasized that the local authorities together with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources are assessing the consequences of the disaster that will occur in the near future.

He also said that the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP destroyed the point of water intake from the Dnipro, which provided Mykolaiv's water supply.

"Due to the terrorist attack committed by the Russians, we have the destruction of the zero point of the water intake from the Dnipro. It is a mark of minus 10 meters, it is flooded and destroyed. The government allocates funds for its restoration, including. As for drinking water now, it is available, the reservoirs are full. But at the same time, the threat remains – Mykolaiv may be left without water," said Kim.

The material added that a mass plague of fish has already begun in the Mykolayiv region. In addition, residents are urged to use only purified water or to boil water from the network and wells.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that two solar power plants were flooded due to an explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP in Mykolaiv Oblast, and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih PJSC suspended a number of steel production processes in order to reduce water consumption in critical conditions.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, at the end of May, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitaly Kim, said that there is a threat that toxic red sludge from the fields of the Mykolaiv Alumina Plant will again be dusted during the heat.
