In Kyiv, the territory of the Holosiiv National Nature Park was increased by 838.1 hectares, that is, from 12.8% to 20.4%.
From now on, the area of the protected zone is 2,246.33 hectares, the Kyiv City Council reports.
Olesya Pynzenyk, deputy of the Kyiv City Council and the initiator of the expansion of the protected zone, emphasized that this will help protect biodiversity and natural ecosystems from destruction. After all, any economic activities will be prohibited.
She added that the strict mode of protection of the natural complex is an important tool for preserving the habitats of animals and plants.
"Protected areas in the modern world are part of those landscapes that inspire and truly reflect the beauty of untouched nature," Pynzenyk said.
She emphasized that the need to increase the protected areas is stipulated by the Law "On the natural and protected fund of Ukraine", in particular, the bequest of 20% of the total area of the country.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strelets, signed a new zoning project for the territory of the Holosiiv National Park, which corrects the errors of 2019 and increases the protected area of the park to 20.4%.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, public figure Maksym Bakhmatov fought for the cancellation of the dubious order of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources No. 308, which turned the protected area of the Holosiiv Forest in Kyiv into a farm.
