Germany seeks to increase the number of green sources of energy

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the country will build new gas-fired power plants that will run on hydrogen.

The estimated capacity of the new stations will reach 17-21 gigawatts, reports Reuters.

This happened at a press conference with Economy and Climate Minister Robert Habeck and Finance Minister Christian Lindner after a closed meeting of the German cabinet.

Scholz said that Germany, as Europe's largest economy, is seeking to increase the number of environmentally friendly energy sources.

"We are not losing sight of the goal of decarbonization. To stabilize the supply, we will build new gas-fired power plants that can run on hydrogen in the future," he said.

We will remind, the government Germany can "disrupt" the European green agreement over attempts to allow the sale of internal combustion engine cars running on electric fuel after 2035.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Germany diesel trains of the LNVG regional connection were replaced by the world's first 100% hydrogen powered trains from the French company Alstom. A train can travel 1,000 kilometers before it needs refueling.
