This will help preserve the scientific and innovative potential of Ukraine in difficult times for science

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced support for Ukrainian scientists, in particular, the creation and financing of the work of the Office of the Horizon Europe program in Ukraine until the end of 2027.

This will contribute to Ukraine's integration into the European research space, as well as strengthen the development of the country within the framework of the Recovery Plan, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science reports.

It is noted that this happened during a briefing within the framework of a joint meeting of the Government of Ukraine and the Board of the European Commission.

The message explained that the main tasks of the Office will be:

  • provision of targeted support to researchers of Ukraine in the preparation of competitive applications and the search for appropriate partners;
  • conducting trainings on the preparation of competitive proposals;
  • promoting the creation of an active and effective network of national contact points that will provide professional services to Ukrainian researchers and innovators throughout the country.
  • providing political advice on Ukraine's integration into the European Research Area (ERA).
  • monitoring of implementation of cooperation projects and popularization of scientific cooperation;
  • organization of targeted information events regarding opportunities for cooperation in the field of scientific research and innovation.

"This will be a catalyst for strengthening Ukraine's participation in the Horizon Europe program and will help preserve the scientific and innovative potential of Ukraine in difficult times for science. We are creating permanent connections between the research and innovation communities of Ukraine and the EU," the Minister of Education and Science emphasized Sergey Skarlet.

The main goal of the Horizon Europe program is to solve global problems and promote industrial modernization through concerted research and innovation efforts. The main directions of the program are:

  • Adaptation to climate change, including social transformation;
  • Fight against cancer;
  • Climate neutral and smart cities;
  • Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters;
  • Soil health and nutrition.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Ukrainian delegation presented 12 environmental start-ups at the world's largest annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA.
