In January 2023, Kyiv residents submitted 4,000 Christmas trees and pine trees for recycling.

Darnytskyi and Solomyanskyi became the leader districts in the disposal of holiday trees, the communal association "Kyivzelenbud" reports on Facebook.

The report emphasized that the number of Christmas trees this year was, as expected, much smaller. Thus, in 2022, Kyiv residents submitted 8,500 New Year's trees for recycling.

Oleksiy Korol, general director of the Kyivzelenbud association, explained that many people decided not to decorate their homes with Christmas trees against the background of the war. Some bought a tree in a pot to plant outside, or preferred an artificial Christmas tree.

"Despite everything, we continue to live, work, and think about the future, particularly the ecological one. Those who still decided to decorate their homes with live trees during the holidays, then brought them for disposal," he said.

The king also added that the trees chopped into chips will become mulch for other coniferous plants in the capital's parks and squares. This will help protect the soil from frost in winter, and retain water during the summer heat.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that from January 4, 2023, 17 points of reception of New Year's trees were opened in Kyiv, where the trees will be chopped into chips and given a second life.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Lviv, residents and guests of the city handed over 2 tons of Christmas trees to the composting station for processing.
