The purpose of the document is to reduce the amount of plastic waste

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management plans to consider draft law No. 6077 "On limiting the circulation of plastic" at a meeting on Wednesday, February 1.

This became known from the agenda published on the website of the committee.

The author of the draft law No. 6077 "On restrictions on the production and circulation of single-use plastic products on the territory of Ukraine" is the head of the EcoCommittee, People's Deputy from the "Sluga narodu" party Oleg Bondarenko.

The purpose of the draft law is to reduce waste generation and prevent the negative impact of single-use plastic products on the environment and human health.

The document proposes to limit the production and import into the customs territory of Ukraine of certain types of single-use plastic products and oxo-degradable plastic products that cannot be composted and during decomposition form microplastics that are harmful to the environment and human health. These are disposable products such as straws, plastic forks, spoons, knives, chopsticks, skewers, plates, glasses, hygienic cotton swabs, etc. Also, the draft law provides for the introduction of labeling for some products that contain plastic, but so far cannot fall under the restrictions.

For providing prohibited products on the market, the authors of the draft law propose to establish a fine from UAH 17,000 to UAH 51,000. For a repeated violation within a year, you will have to pay from UAH 85,000 to UAH 170,000.

The People's Deputies will also consider the following bills:

  • "On state regulation of the field of plant protection" 8340
  • "On amendments to article 2 of the Law of Ukraine "On the National guard of Ukraine" regarding the improvement of the regulatory and legal regulation of the National Guard of Ukraine" 8303
  • "On amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On certain issues of importing into the customs territory of Ukraine and conducting the first state registration of vehicles" regarding the validity of rules for the period of martial law" 7235
  • The members of the eco-committee will also discuss the draft resolution "On approval of proposals for the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)" 8377.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, on January 27, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Yevgeny Fedorenko stated that over the past year, Ukraine has succeeded to adopt a number of reform decisions in the environmental sphere, which bring the country closer to the EU.
