Ecoactivists debunked the most popular myths about the benefits of organic products

In many countries, the demand for organic products is not met by domestic production, which increases world trade

The production and consumption of organic products, which are grown thanks to organic farming, is gaining popularity in the world. However, their production and consumption can cause significant damage to nature.

Ecoactivists from the public association Let's do it, Ukraine on Facebook debunked the most popular myths about the "environmentality" of organic products.

They emphasized that organic products are grown with minimal use of pesticides, artificial fertilizers and food additives. Compost is a fertilizer for organic products.

  • Bio is more natural

The authors explained that organic products still contain certain fertilizers and pesticides. For example, biopesticides are used to grow organic plants, such as cuprum sulfate, known as copper sulfate. Such a substance is not 100% safe.

  • Organic products are better for the environment

The study "Carbon dioxide emissions and land use of traditional and organic diets in Germany" showed that 40% more land is needed to produce organic products.

Eco-activists emphasized that the demand for organic products is constantly growing, so they are grown throughout the year, in particular in greenhouses.

"Of course, for traditional products as well, but since organic farming occupies a larger area, more energy is needed to ensure proper conditions," they explained.

The authors noted that in the greenhouse, carbon dioxide, which is needed for plant growth, is supplied artificially. This increases emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

They emphasized that in many countries the demand for organic products is not met by domestic production. Therefore, the world trade in food products is increasing.

Eco-activists explained that it is much more difficult to control the quality of organic products. In addition, fraudsters can sell traditional products at the price of organic products.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, eco-activists urged Ukrainians to consume wisely, because passive observation of the deterioration of the planet will lead to irreversible environmental changes. Environmentalists have warned that humanity has a maximum left 50 years to avoid disaster.
