For Zakarpattia, the problem with garbage is very painful

The Government of Hungary provided the Zakarpattia Regional Council with about $2.45 million for the construction of the region's first waste sorting plant in the village of Janoši, Berehiv district.

It is planned that the plant will start operating by the end of 2023, the head of the Zakarpattia Regional Council, Volodymyr Chubirko, reported on Facebook.

He noted that from now on there are all the necessary funds for the implementation of the project. The plant will solve the waste problem for 200,000 residents and will allow similar initiatives to be implemented in other communities.

"Considering the recent termination of funding for many European grant programs, this is actually a great success for us," Chubirko emphasized.

He emphasized that the problem with garbage is painful for Zakarpattia.

Chubirko also said that in the region, the water supply and drainage networks in Svaliav are also being repaired as part of the "Poland-Ukraine" Program. This will provide the community with high-quality drinking water.

He added that the total cost of the project at the beginning was €880,000. However, due to the increase in the exchange rate, the estimate had to be adjusted and 10% of the cost to be financed from the local budget.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that from Ukraine to Hungary during floods whole streams of garbage are moving along the Tisza River at a rate of 100 bottles per minute. The reason for such a critical environmental situation is the lack of a waste management system.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the Zakarpattia region, territorial communities will be able to receive grants for the creation of recycling centers with a press for plastic.
