The goal of the initiative is to prevent a global threat to the world's food security and create mutually beneficial partnerships

Specialists of the Economic Recovery Center analyzed the economic effect of the green grain corridors initiative, which Ukraine presented at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27).

According to their calculations, the initiative will increase grain production by 7-9% per year and reduce carbon emissions by more than 2 million tons, the Economic Recovery Center reports on Facebook.

The article emphasized that since Ukraine is a supplier of approximately 9% of the world's wheat, Russian aggression has caused a global food crisis.

Economists noted that more than 90% of Ukrainian grain was exported through Black Sea ports. Alternative export routes are more expensive and also significantly increase the carbon footprint.

"Therefore, Ukraine is actively working on the "Green Grain Corridors" initiative, which it presented at COP27. The goal of the initiative is to prevent a global threat to the world's food security and to create mutually beneficial partnerships at every stage of the grain supply chain," the authors emphasized.

They also added that the Center for Economic Recovery assisted the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources in preparing for the Conference, as well as in analyzing the impact of green grain corridors on the economy and the environment.

"Thanks to the Green Grain Corridors, we will be able to export 5-7% more, thus partially covering the needs of regions vulnerable to food crises due to increased exports," the economists explained.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, one of Ukrainian initiatives at COP27 will be a matter of the so-called green grain corridors.
