Volunteers transform the collected materials into a military version of warmth, comfort and care for the environment

Residents of Lviv will be able to donate leftovers from used candles and bee wax to make eco-friendly candles that do not leave any waste.

For these candles, volunteers use biodegradable containers made from coffee grounds, says the ecological brand rekava on Facebook.

Trench candles are made from corrugated cardboard and fuel, namely wax, paraffin or stearin, and a container.

The message noted that they are intended for:

  • lighting of the dugout or shelter;
  • heating and drying clothes;
  • heating or preparing food and hot drinks;
  • lighting a fire (even from wet wood).

"You can help us if you want. To do this, collect and hand over to us the remains of used candles or wax waste from beehives. If your business produces such products and you want to join, please send us these fuels directly," the message reads.

The volunteers emphasized that they are transforming the collected materials into a military version of warmth, comfort and care for the environment.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Ukrainians will be able to return their empty, clean canned food cans to ZooBonus stores, which will become trench candles for Ukrainian defenders.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Lviv, public organization Zero Waste Lviv continues work in war conditions, to reduce the amount of single-use plastic, minimize waste, promote reusable items, sorting, composting, recycling, etc.
