The landfill has been constantly increasing since 2015

Eco-inspectors accused the Korostysh city council in the Zhytomyr region of inactivity and improper performance of powers due to the many years of unauthorized dumping of industrial waste from the processing of natural stone.

In August 2022, the volume of stone processing waste reached about 24.5 thousand m3, which caused 14.5 million hryvnias of pollution damage to the environment, reports the State Inspectorate of Polissky District on Facebook.

In the message, it was noted that in 2021, eco-inspectors sent the city council a demand for the liquidation of this landfill.

However, the Korostyshiv city council replied that this issue was referred to the permanent commission on the management of stray waste. The DEI did not provide any other information.

"At the request of the Inspectorate, the National Space Management and Testing Center conducted satellite monitoring of spontaneous industrial waste landfills, the results of which recorded a constant increase in the area of industrial waste landfills from 2015 to the present," the DEI press service wrote.

The message also added that the systematic increase of the landfill indicates that the Korostyshiv City Council has not taken any actions regarding its liquidation.

Eco-inspectors appealed to law enforcement agencies to take appropriate response measures.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the residents of the village of Pidbirtsi in the Lviv community are on their own found a driver who illegally dumped garbage was charged on their territory.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the enterprise "Stebnitske GHP Polymineral" in the Lviv region dumps its waste into the Vyshnytsia River, as a result of which the background concentrations of pollutants in the water body were exceeded.
