The area of ​​protected objects of the peninsula is 68% of its entire territory.

Environmental inspectors calculated UAH 15.63 billion of damage to atmospheric air due to fires on the territory of the Kinburn peninsula, located within the Kherson and Nikolaev regions.

In the period from March 1 to July 3, 2022, about 3,708 hectares of the peninsula burned out, reports State Environmental Inspectorate on Telegram.

Economists found that:

  • from March 15 to July 3, 2022, the territories of the national park "Beloberezhye Svyatoslav" and the regional landscape park "Kinburn Spit" located within the peninsula were on fire – 2,109 hectares of area burned out, and the amount of environmental damage amounted to 5.7 billion hryvnias;
  • From March 1 to July 3, 2022, within the limits of the Vasilievsky and Kinburnsky forestry of the State Enterprise Nikolaevsky LG, there were 22 forest fires on an area of ​​1599.81 hectares, environmental damage amounted to more than 9.93 billion hryvnias.

The material also said that the Kinburn Peninsula is a unique territory, a unique ecosystem that is constantly and mercilessly negatively affected by fires caused by military aggression.

The peninsula separates the Dnieper-Bug Estuary from the Black Sea. There are two sections of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve (Volyzhin Forest and Solonoozernaya), the Svyatoslav Beloberezhye National Natural Park, the Kinburn Spit Regional Landscape Park, the Yagorlitsky Bay wetlands, etc.

“The area of ​​protected objects of the peninsula is 68% of its total area. In addition, the island is an important part of the “ecological corridor”, within which the migratory routes of a huge number of birds pass,” the SEI noted.
