The purpose of the law is to reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere

On Saturday, July 9, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved in general draft law No. 5339 "On amendments to some laws of Ukraine regarding improvement of the mechanism for regulation of air pollutant emissions".

The corresponding decision was supported by 255 deputies.

The purpose of the law is to reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. It is proposed to oblige enterprises to independently monitor their own emissions and achieve their reduction within a specified period.

"The draft law was developed with the aim of improving the mechanism for regulating emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, issuing permits for emissions, improving state regulation, economic relations, reducing administrative pressure on business entities and reducing their administrative costs," explained the ecocommittee.

More than 140 amendments and proposals were submitted to the draft law, in particular regarding: control of the volume and composition of emissions into the atmospheric air; keeping records of emissions; procedures and grounds for issuance, receipt, cancellation; the terms of validity of the emissions permit, as well as the terms and their definitions, in particular those that take into account most of the observations of the Main Scientific and Expert Department.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Verkhovna Rada rejected draft law No. 7327 on the state environmental monitoring system.
