This is a major European integration step for Ukraine and an opportunity for the EU to significantly strengthen energy security through low-carbon electricity.

European energy system operators ENTSO-E have agreed on a gradual expansion of Ukraine's net electricity export capacity.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian system operator NEC Ukrenergo.

"On June 7, 2022, the transmission system operators of Continental Europe decided to give a positive answer to Ukrenergo's request to resume electricity exports from Ukraine," the NEC said in a statement.

In the Ukrainian Business & Trade Association (UBTA) noted that this decision contributes to the possibility of full-fledged electricity exports to EU countries in the near future. Both parties will benefit from it.

  • for Ukrainian companies — it is access to the EU market, as well as additional earnings;
  • for EU countries — the opportunity to buy Ukrainian "clean" energy, which is produced without carbon emissions: nuclear, solar, wind and hydrogen.

According to experts, Ukrainian energy is able to cover part of electricity consumption in Central and Eastern Europe. This major European integration step for Ukraine will allow the EU to replace "bloody" Russian gas with Ukrainian "climate-neutral" energy.

Before EcoPolitics reported that the World Association of Nuclear Operators will translate everything Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the center of Paris.
