Oil India Limited (OIL), India's state-owned oil company, has commissioned the country's first 99.999% green hydrogen plant.

The plant was opened in the state of Assam in northeastern India in a record time of three months, informs The Economist Thimes .

According to OIL Chairman and CEO Sushil Chandra Mishra, this is an experimental green hydrogen plant that will produce 10 kg of hydrogen per day.

According to him, the company is also the first in India to use anion exchange membrane (AEM) technology. Green hydrogen is generated using electricity generated by a 500 kW solar power plant and using a 100 kW AEM cell.

"We expect that the production of green hydrogen at this plant will increase from 10 kg to 30 kg per day in the future," Mishra added.

It should also be noted that OIL together with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Guwahat is conducting research on the mixing of green hydrogen with natural gas for commercial use of mixed fuels.

Note that in April 2022, another major Indian oil company, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, the largest owner of the refinery, which accounts for almost half of gasoline consumption in India, signed agreements with two major Indian companies to cooperate in the field of "green hydrogen".

Before EcoPolitics reported that in India at a powerful biomethane plant will produce environmentally friendly hydrogen from biomethane from organic waste and landfill gas.
