Polluters of Kryvyi Rih will be forced to reduce the amount of dust in 2023

Polluters will water the streets from April to October

Enterprises of Kryvyi Rih were obliged to carry out comprehensive measures for dust suppression in residential quarters located in the zone of influence of their production activities.

In order to reduce dustiness in the air, enterprises will water the streets according to a specified schedule, reports the Department of Ecology of the Executive Committee of the Kryvyi Rih City Council on Facebook.

"One of the problems in our city is the dustiness of the air, as evidenced by the results of the city's air quality monitoring system," the report emphasized.

The Department of Ecology said that in the spring, the winds that raise dust from enterprises increase in the city. Therefore, from April to October, polluters will water the streets, taking into account weather conditions.

The message added that, for example, ArcelorMittal will water some streets twice a week, some - every day, and some - 3 times a day. However, if there are cars parked on the street, which will interfere with the passage of special equipment, watering will not be carried out.

It is noted that the initiative is being implemented as part of the City Program for solving environmental problems of Kryvbas and improving the state of the natural environment for 2016-2025. City and district executive committees, as well as the public, will control dust suppression from enterprises.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kryvyi Rih, mass explosions in the quarries of mining enterprises, in particular ArcelorMittal, became one of the biggest sources of air pollution in 2022.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kryvyi Rih in 2022, the amount of pollutant emissions into the atmospheric air reached 65.8 thousand tons, which is 71% less than in 2021.
