The rate of advance of pollutants from the Sejm River is gradually slowing down. As of 16:00 on September 1, they were 74 km from Chernigov.
It is reported by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Ukraine with reference to the data of the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine.
At that time, polluted waters were 92 km from the confluence of the river. Sejm in the river. Desna.
The ministry noted that according to the preliminary forecast of the Ukrhydrometcenter, organic pollution was supposed to reach the city of Chernigov on August 30 – September 2 – this is 166 km from the place where the Sejm flows into the Desna. However, experts are currently observing a trend of daily slowdown in the movement of dangerous organic matter. This is due to its dilution by the waters of the Desna River several times.
The State Water Agency cites the speed of pollution along the Desna River:
- On August 30, it was 26 km/day;
- August 31 – 22 km/day;
- September 1 – 18 km/day.
According to specialists' forecasts, this trend will continue. The estimated date when the polluted waters will reach Chernihiv is approximately September 3-5.
Monitoring experts confirm the stabilization of the state of the Seim River from the border with the Russian Federation to the village of Chaplyshchi in the Sumy region. In this section of the watercourse, they note a slight increase in dissolved oxygen in the water, a decrease in the sharp unpleasant smell, and the restoration of the natural color of the water.
The Ministry of Environment promised that measures to improve the river will be carried out after determining a safe method of carrying out work and overcoming the consequences of an emergency.
"Specialists of the State Water Agency and the State Ecoinspection analyze the data received from laboratories and experts around the clock and develop appropriate measures. Trust only verified information!” – urged in the ministry.
Recall that water pollution in the Sejm in the Chernihiv region became known on August 14. Mass pestilence of fish began in the watercourse, and the water turned black.
According to experts of the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine, contaminated water came from the Russian Kurschina, where hostilities continue. The agency claims that the Russian military dumped unknown waste into the Sejm. Specialists found in the water excess of ammonium and critically low oxygen content.
