Even before the start of the full-scale invasion, 20% of Ukraine's agricultural land had undergone significant degradation, and the level of plowing reached 53%

Eco-inspectors calculated 448.9 billion hryvnias of damage caused to Ukrainian soil due to Russian military aggression.

8,099,793,440 m2 of land was littered with war waste and 291,826,950 m2 were contaminated with harmful substances released as a result of the detonation of ammunition, the State Environmental Inspection reported on Facebook.

The message emphasized that the soil will also be damaged by the structure. This leads to damage to agricultural land, the impossibility of carrying out sowing operations and, as a result, to the absence of a harvest on the land.

"Destruction of Ukrainian lands is a crime against Ukraine's environment and a global problem that carries the risk of a food crisis and the impossibility of guaranteeing food security for humanity in the future. The enemy must bear full responsibility for crimes against humanity and the environment," the press service said.

The authors also emphasized that according to the international organization FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), which operates under the auspices of the UN, before the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia, 20% of Ukraine's agricultural lands underwent significant degradation, and the level of their plowing reached 53%. This indicator is one of the highest in the world, for example, in Poland it reaches 36.5%, in Germany – 34.1%, in the USA – 17.5%, and in China – 12%.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kyiv, eco-inspectors calculated more than 25.1 million hryvnias in damages from soil contamination with petroleum products as a result of missile attacks on energy infrastructure in October.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors discovered in the soil, the concentration of ammonium nitrogen is 365 times higher after the shelling of the agricultural enterprise BIO LAT LLC, which caused a large-scale fire.
