In 11 months, 686,816 tons of petroleum products were burned during the shelling

During the 11 months of full-scale war, Russian aggression caused more than 1 trillion 743 billion hryvnias of damage to Ukrainian soil, air and water resources.

The largest losses are calculated for air pollution – 998 billion hryvnias, reports State Environmental Inspection on Telegram.

The press service emphasized that the total amount of damage caused by soil pollution and land pollution already amounts to over 688 billion hryvnias. And damages from pollution and clogging of water resources exceeded 56 million hryvnias.

It is noted that from February 24 to January 24, eco-inspectors recorded and calculated the following quantitative indicators of the damage caused by the occupiers:

  • 280,904 m2 of soil is contaminated with hazardous substances;
  • 12,277,512 m2 of land is littered with the remains of destroyed objects and ammunition;
  • 686,816 tons of petroleum products burned during the shelling, polluting the air with dangerous substances;
  • 33,132 hectares of forests and other plantations were burned by rockets and shells, some of them may be restored within ten years, and this is according to the most optimistic calculations, the rest are lost forever;
  • 1,063,947 m2 of objects, including critical infrastructure, were destroyed, and their remains caused damage to the environment;
  • 1,597 tons – the mass of pollutants that entered water bodies;
  • 2,903,513 kg – mass of foreign objects, materials, waste and other substances that got into water bodies;
  • 410,150,000,000 m3 – the volume of arbitrarily withdrawn water.

The message emphasized that the State Inspectorate will continue to calculate the damage caused by the occupiers.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, a full-scale war in 11 months caused damage to Ukraine's environment by more than $46 billion, which Russia will be required to reimburse.
