In Ukraine, eco-activists from the public organization "Ekoklub" are implementing a project to install solar panels for the uninterrupted operation of 6 medical institutions.
These are hospitals in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Kharkiv regions and the de-occupied part of Kherson region, reports Suspilne.
The communicator of "Ecoclub" Yuliya Guziy said that generators for the recovery of critical infrastructure are a kind of "fire extinguisher", that is, a quick solution in a crisis situation. However, they work for about a year and need fuel to operate.
"One option is to install solar panels for Ukrainian hospitals. This is a long-term solution in a crisis situation. As part of our campaign, we have already installed a solar power plant in Zvyagel, this is the Zhytomyr Region, with a capacity of 32.4 kW," Guziy said.
She noted that the average warranty period of operation of a solar power plant reaches 20 years. The SPP in the Zviagel hospital produces 250 kW of electricity on a sunny day. Before the installation of the solar power plant, the generator supplied the hospital with 70% of its needs.
"Now this solar power plant provides additional power, this 30%. Therefore, the intensive care unit, maternity ward, other buildings of the hospital will be supplied with power even when the electricity completely disappears and the hospital is disconnected from the power grid," she said.
It is noted that the project and installation of SES in medical facilities is implemented together with the Solar energy association of Ukraine in partnership with the Global Solar Council.
"Medical institutions can contact us. In particular, Ecoclub is currently developing technical and economic feasibility studies for communities and critical infrastructure institutions. This is a document where our experts calculate whether solar panels need to be installed, what capacity, whether they will be able to cover all the need in electricity," Huziy added.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Zhytomyr region, solar panels were installed on the roof of the district hospital in the city of Zviagel, which already partially meet the needs of the medical facility.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the Kyiv region, in the village of Gorenka, in the Buchanskyi district, a solar power plant and a ground-to-water heat pump for heating were installed on the roof of a dispensary damaged by Russian troops.
