Animal rights activists demand the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, to veto draft law No. 8150 "On making changes to some laws of Ukraine on improving the requirements of the legislation on food products, feed, veterinary medicine and animal welfare".

Appropriate petition was registered on the website of the President of Ukraine, which was called anti-humane and murderous.

The petition emphasized that the draft law provides for a number of anti-humanist changes, including:

  • lifting the ban on the mass destruction of animals for the purpose of depopulation, which will actually allow the killing of homeless animals (for example, cats and dogs) with impunity;
  • lifting the ban on butchering, tarring, skinning, smoking, separating parts of animals, etc. until the heartbeat stops;
  • permission to carry out branding, tagging, biosterilization, trimming of a part of the beak, removal or trimming of horns and other painful procedures without the use of anesthetic methods;
  • permission to use painful and traumatic techniques during milking, shearing, fattening, etc.;
  • allowing the use of biotechnological/genetic engineering methods to change the breed or appearance of animals, even if such a change may cause the animal to suffer;
  • lifting the ban on the use of sick, injured, pregnant, malnourished animals for work;
  • removal of the ban on the use of equipment and means in work with animals that can lead to injury, maiming or death of animals;
  • lifting the ban on forced feeding of animals, including the breeding of geese/ducks for the purpose of obtaining foie gras.

The author of the petition Yevgen Isayenko emphasized that in a democratic, free country that is on its way to the European Union, changes and reforms should be not only on paper, but also in the mentality of every conscious citizen.

"Humanity and awareness of the value of any life — even an animal's — this is exactly what should be present in the worldview of an adequate society of the 21st century," he emphasized. — Therefore, we have no place for such bills, which aim to legalize terrible torment and torture of living beings, and I urge you to promise it."

The petition has already received about 13,700 votes out of the required 25,000.

As EcoPolitic reported before, animal rights activists called on people's deputies do not vote for draft law No. 8150.
