Increased levels of nitrogen dioxide pollution

In the air of Kyiv during the week from May 8 to May 13, an excess of the average daily maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide by 8.8 times was revealed.

Compared with the previous week, the level of formaldehyde and sulfur dioxide pollution has slightly decreased, according to the weekly air pollution report of the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the observatory, the excess of the maximum allowable concentration (MPC) for the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • 8.8 times - on Sklyarenko Street (May 12);
  • 2.3-4.5 times - on Demeevskaya, Bessarabskaya and Galicskaya squares, Obolonsky, Nauky and Beresteysky avenues, Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Academician Strazhesko, Hetman Pavel Polubotok, Engineer Borodin and Kaunaska streets .

Exceeding the MPC for the average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • 1.3-2.4 times - on the squares of Demeevskaya, Bessarabska and Galitska, Obolonsky and Beresteysky avenues, Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Academician Strazhesko, Hetman Pavel Polubotok, Engineer Borodin, Kaunas and Semyon Sklyarenko streets ;
  • no excesses were observed at 37, Nauki Ave. (near the meteorological site).

Exceeding the MPC for the average daily content of formaldehyde:

  • 1.0-2.9 times - on the squares of Demeevskaya, Bessarabska and Galitska, Obolonsky, Nauki and Beresteisky avenues, Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Academician Strazhesko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotok, Kaunasskaya and Sklyarenko streets .

It is noted that, compared with the previous week, the level of nitrogen dioxide pollution has increased.

Observatory specialists selected and analyzed 1498 atmospheric air samples from 15 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in Kyiv, in Zverinetsky Square, in the Pechersky District, the construction of the OZON Concept House residential complex, which involves cutting down 1,691 trees, has begun again.
