Arson is punishable by a fine and can be considered sabotage

In Ukraine, during the fire-hazardous period of 2022, piles of dry vegetation were fined 880,000 hryvnias.

During this period, eco-inspectors discovered 415 cases of dry burning, it is reported State Environmental Inspection on Telegram.

Administrative protocols were imposed on the responsible persons.

Eco-inspectors conducted almost 1,500 preventive and educational activities among the population regarding the prohibition of burning dry vegetation, in particular regarding responsibility for such offenses.

Dry burning is prohibited in Ukraine, and arson is punishable by a fine:

  • for citizens from UAH 3,060 to UAH 6,120;
  • for officials UAH 15,300 to UAH 21,420.

In addition, during martial law, dry burning may be mistaken for sabotage.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that during the burning of fallen leaves and other plant remains, dust, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, heavy metals and a number of carcinogenic compounds. In smoldering leaves without access to oxygen, benzopyrene is released, which can cause cancer in humans, and dioxin is also released – one of the most poisonous substances.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Ukrainians are urged not to burn dry vegetation, because in wartime it can be perceived as subversive work and presentation of light signals to the enemy, signs for aviation.
