The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has appointed Yevgeny Fedorenko as the new Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources for European Integration.
From now on, he will coordinate the process of adapting Ukrainian legislation in the field of environmental protection to EU law, the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.
The message emphasized that Fedorenko will take care of:
- fulfillment of Ukraine's obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU;
- full adjustment of the national legal field to the norms and standards in force in the European Union;
- further movement of Ukraine along the European green course.
It is noted that from May 2022, Fedorenko held the position of deputy minister, where he worked on the implementation of:
- garbage reform;
- sustainable subsoil use;
- building a national system of chemical safety.
The message emphasized that self-screening of the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU law, which the government launched in February 2023, is currently underway. Ministries and other central bodies of executive power have until June 30 to conduct an initial assessment of the state of implementation of EU legal acts. And by August 30, they must submit a corresponding report and proposals for bringing the sectoral legislation into line with EU law.
"This is the basis that is necessary for the qualitative preparation of Ukraine for the negotiation process. After all, Ukraine is determined to start negotiations on EU membership already this year, and in two years to be as prepared as possible for joining the European Union," the press service noted.
