UAH 3,332 will have to be paid for one illegally caught crayfish

The ban on crayfish fishing has ended in the water bodies of Ukraine, except for Odesa in the Dniester estuary, the Kuchurgan reservoir, the Dniester river with the Turunchuk branch, the Danube river and the Danube lakes.

Fishermen were allowed to catch 30 crayfish per person per day in public reservoirs and 50 – in reservoirs where paid fishing is implemented, the State Fisheries Agency reports on Facebook.

The ban ended on September 30, 2022. However, the minimum size of the crayfish should be 9-10 cm (depending on the reservoir).

How to catch:

  • manual collection;
  • a hook conch shell with a diameter of no more than 70 cm and an eyelet of no more than 22 mm;
  • fishing line with bait;
  • slingshot;
  • by split – no more than five tackles per angler.

The message emphasized that it is forbidden to catch crayfish in the dark, i.e. later than one hour after sunset and earlier than one hour before sunrise, with the use of lighting.

After all, for illegal harvesting of crayfish, punishments ranging from administrative fines to criminal liability are provided, as well as compensation for losses caused to the fishing industry. Thus, the cassation fee for one illegally caught crayfish amounts to UAH 3,332.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in reservoirs of the Transcarpathian region from June 1 a ban on crayfish fishing was introduced.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the Poltava region, in the city of Horishna Plavni, a poacher who caught fish and crayfish worth more than 4 million hryvnias at the Kamian reservoir was found.
