In the Zhytomyr region, in the village of Sloboda-Selets, which is actually part of Zhytomyr, sewage from sewage treatment plants enters the river.

The water in the river turned grayish-white in color and acquired an unpleasant smell, activist Volodymyr Solomko reports on Facebook.

"Zhytomyrvodokanal is doing this on its own or in agreement with the city authorities?" Solomko wrote.

On Sunday, September 24, at around 5:05 p.m., he filmed the sewage draining into the river from numerous small holes in the pipe.

"The pipe goes from the city of Zhytomyr through the settling ponds. As [Zhytomyr Mayor Serhiy] Sukhomlin said, a lot of money was invested in water purification so that clean water flows into the river," commented Solomko.

The video shows that some of the holes on the pipe were closed with wooden chops.

He also noted that due to pollution, fish plague may soon occur in the river.

Solomko urged environmental agencies to pay attention to the pollution of the river.

The video contains obscene language.

Earlier, Ecopolitic wrote, that in Zhytomyr during a thunderstorm on June 20, a burst of the sewage network occurred, the sewage from which flooded several private houses and entered the Teteriv River. Streams poured for about 2.5 hours.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors calculated more than 22 million UAH of eco-damages from sewage pollution of the Teteriv River in Zhytomyr.
