Utility workers could not quickly shut down the network, because it is in an emergency state

In Zhytomyr, during a thunderstorm on June 20, a sewage network burst, sewage from which flooded several private houses and entered the Teteriv River.

Streams poured for about 2.5 hours, reports First Zhytomyrskyi.

Residents of the affected house said that the sewage had demolished a fence, a tree and paving stones. People contacted the emergency service of the water utility, but it was possible to shut down the network in only 2.5 hours.

One of the residents emphasized that the stream flowed into the Teteriv River, which supplies the city with water.

A resident of a neighboring building, who was also affected by the network failure, said that he repeatedly called the hotline, the water supply company and the city council. The department explained that they cannot quickly shut down the network, because it is in an emergency state.

"While they did everything they could, everything wore out, everything was damaged. Water in the basement, in the house, everything is damaged on the territory. The basement was made for shelter. The water flooded so that it is now impossible to stay here. The smell is not pleasant," he said.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that m the head of Zhytomyr, Serhiy Sukhomlin, said that due to the full-scale invasion updates of Zhytomyrvodokanal had to be suspended.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-inspectors in Zhytomyr discovered a high content of nitrogen, iron, chlorides and other pollutants in the Teteriv River. Probable sewage discharge from the sewage network local residents noticed.
