The materials were handed over to law enforcement agencies

In the Zaporizhzhia region, eco-inspectors discovered illegal felling of trees in the field protection forest strip, which caused damages in the amount of more than 588 thousand hryvnias.

Two black loggers damaged 42 trees to the point of stopping their growth, reports State Inspection on Telegram.

The report emphasized that the perpetrators did not have documents for the special use of forest (plant) resources. This is a violation of Art. 69 of the Forest Code of Ukraine, Art. Art. 9, 10 of the Law of Ukraine "On Plant Life".

Field protection forest strips protect crops from droughts, dust storms, improve the water regime of the soil and prevent its erosion. They also increase crop yields and improve the microclimate in the fields.

In addition, such plantations play a major ecological role.

"The materials of the offense have been sent to law enforcement agencies," the SEI noted.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that black loggers near the village of Ocheretyanka in Zhytomyr region stolen 137 trees, which caused losses in the amount of 1.7 million hryvnias.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Ukraine an initiative to increase the amount of felling, to provide the army and the population with firewood, has significant risks, because corruption and the lack of reliable mechanisms to protect old natural forests can lead to the loss of the most valuable natural treasures.
