Specialists of the observatory took and analyzed 1,635 air samples

In the air of Kyiv during the week from May 15 to 20, an excess of the average daily maximum permissible concentration of nitrogen dioxide by 5.4 times was detected.

Compared to the previous week, the level of pollution by all impurities has increased, according to the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • 5.4 times – on Halytskyi Square (May 17);
  • in 2.6-4.9 times – on Demiivska and Bessarabska squares, Obolonsky, Nauka and Beresteysky avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Dovzhenka Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets .

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • 1.5-2.6 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Obolonski and Beresteyska avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets ;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • formaldehyde – in 1.0-2.7 times on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Obolonsky, Nauka and Beresteysky avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets;
  • suspended substances – 1.1 times on Beresteysky prospect (May 17) .

Specialists of the observatory selected and analyzed 1,635 samples of atmospheric air from 16 stationary stations.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, communal workers collected about 25 bags of garbage in the landscape reserve of local importance "Zhukiv ostrov" in the Holosiivka district.
