In Kyiv, about 35 million hryvnias will be allocated to save the Blue Lake from drying up near the Vynogradar housing estate, but the tender will be held already in 2024.

This will be the third tender for lake clean-up work, and the first two did not take place, Vyacheslav Savytskyi, general director of the Pleso utility company, said in an interview for Informator.

He explained that the 2021 tender for about 96 million hryvnias also took into account the improvement of the surrounding territory. However, the community criticized such spending during a full-scale war.

"Kyivzelenbud is going to take over the land around the lake. Therefore, we will divide the tender. I agree that the issue of walkways and gazebos is not timely. Therefore, we will hold a separate tender for clearing the lake in order to save the reservoir," said Savytskyi.

He explained that the lake is planned to be cleared to a depth of 5 m in order to uncover underground sources. This will create an additional source of replenishment and improve the ecological condition of the Blue. However, only the excavation of soil in the northern part of the lake requires 45 days under favorable weather conditions and the work of special equipment in two shifts.

"We won't have time by the end of the year, so next year we will hold a new tender. It will be adjusted," said the head of the "Pleso" KP, adding that the price of the tender will be adjusted due to the increase in prices.

According to him, if the rescue of the lake is postponed until victory, it may lead to its final loss.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that over the past 40 years, the Blue has become very shallow. In May 2023, its area decreased significantly, and the connecting channel dried up, in particular, due to climate change and water lowering due to the construction of housing estates and highways. In August, the KMDA stated that the allocation of funds for the restoration of the lake had already been agreed.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in October in Kyiv, the unique Blue Lake dried up which is in the Podilsky District near the Vynogradar housing estate. In May, its cleaning and beautification was included in the list of environmental protection measures for 2023. KMDA promised to make every effort to save this unique reservoir.
