Currently, the area of the lake has significantly decreased, the connecting channel has dried up, and the water level is constantly falling

In Kyiv, the clearing and beautification of the unique Sinye Lake, located in the Podilsky district near the Vynogradar housing estate, was included in the list of environmental protection measures for 2023.

Over the past 40 years, the lake has become very shallow due to construction and rising air temperatures, Oleksandr Vozny, head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the KMDA, reports on Facebook.

He explained that rising temperatures have increased evaporation and silted up bottom springs. In addition, the construction of housing estates and highways has created artificial barriers to filling with underground and surface water.

Vozny emphasized that the area of the lake has significantly decreased, the connecting channel has dried up. Currently, two separate lakes have formed, the water level of which is constantly falling.

He said that in order to save the lake, the following will be carried out:

  • clearing the lake to a depth of 5 m to reveal soil sources. This will provide additional filling, as well as improve the ecological condition of the lake;
  • cleaning of the connecting duct;
  • will combine the lake into a ring to equalize the water levels and prevent stagnation.

"We will make every effort to save this unique reservoir," Vozny emphasized.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kyiv, in the landscape reserve of local importance "Zhukiv otsrov", a spontaneous landfill, traces of numerous fires and felling of trees were discovered. Also, despite the ban on the entry of vehicles, traces of cars, ATVs and motorcycles were found.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Mariupol the occupiers decided to combine the Starokrym and Pavlopil reservoirs, because the Kalchyk River filled with them will not be able to provide even the minimum needs of the city. However, this could simultaneously destroy both reservoirs, their ecosystems, and the ecology around the city.
