The worst CAQI air quality index of 94 was recorded on Architektor Verbytskyi Street

In Kyiv, on the morning of Friday, March 22, the content of particulate matter (dust) PM10 and PM2.5 increased to harmful levels in the air of 10 districts.

The CAQI air quality index reached 78-94, according to the Kyiv Digital mobile app.

As of 10:16 a.m., harmful dust levels were recorded at the monitoring stations:

Left bank

  • 26 Architect Verbytskoho St. – CAQI 94;
  • 3b Borys Hmyrya Street – 79;
  • Kharkivske highway 7/1 – 88;
  • boulevard. Ihor Shamo 9/1 – 76;

Right bank

  • 18 Bulgakova St. – 78
  • 2a Pshenychna St. – 89;
  • 22, Kitaivska St. – 84;
  • Zaliznychne highway, 41 – 77;
  • 14 John Paul II Street, 14 – 79;
  • 30a Predslavynska Street – 81.

To improve the air situation, the press service of the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration advised the citizens to

  • close the windows
  • limit your stay on the street;
  • drink plenty of water;
  • if you have an air purifier, turn it on to the maximum.

It is noted that the probable cause of the pollution is meteorological conditions, namely very low wind speed, which contributes to the accumulation and retention of harmful impurities in the surface air layer.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that starting April 13, 2022, Kyiv will be able to monitor air quality through the Kyiv Digital app, which shows data from all 46 city air monitoring stations.

Earlier, EcoPolitics analyzed how PM2.5 dust is formed, its hazards, and ways to combat air pollution.
