Specialists of the observatory analyzed 1,524 air samples

During the week of March 4-9, the average daily maximum permissible concentration of nitrogen dioxide was found to be 4.6 times higher than the maximum permissible concentration in Kyiv.

Compared to the previous week, the content of nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide increased, according to the weekly air pollution report from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the observatory, the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of nitrogen dioxide was exceeded by the average daily content:

  • in 3.0-4.6 times – on Bessarabska and Halytskaya squares, Beresteysky prospect, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semen Sklyarenko streets;
  • 1.0-2.9 times – on Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, in the Hydropark area.

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • in 1.6-2.5 times – on Bessarabska and Halytskaya squares, Beresteyskyi and Obolonskyi avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 3.4 times – in the area of Semena Sklyarenko Street (March 4);
  • 1.0-2.9 times – on Halytskaya and Bessarabskaya squares, Beresteyskyi, Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska streets .

The observatory's specialists collected and analyzed 1524 atmospheric air samples from 16 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, on the Dnipro embankment, utility companies planted a hedge of white turf bushes, which has noise-absorbing and dust-absorbing properties.
