Specialists of the observatory analyzed 1287 air samples

During the week of March 18-23, the average daily maximum permissible concentration of nitrogen dioxide was found to be 4.4 times higher than the average daily maximum permissible concentration.

Compared to the previous week, the content of formaldehyde increased slightly, according to the weekly air pollution report from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the observatory, the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) of nitrogen dioxide was exceeded by the average daily content:

  • in 3.1-4.0 times – on Beresteysky prospect, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin streets (March 21-23);
  • 3.2-4.4 times on Bessarabska Square, Kaunaska and Semena Sklyarenko streets;
  • 1.1-2.8 times on Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, in the Hydropark area, Akademika Strazheska Street .

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • 1.4-2.5 times – on Bessarabska Square, Beresteyskyi and Obolonskyi Avenues, Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets ;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • 2.9-3.0 times – in the area of Sklyarenko Street (March 21-22);
  • 1.0-2.1 times – on Bessarabska Square, Beresteyskyi and Obolonskyi Avenues, Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka and Kaunaska Streets .

The observatory's specialists collected and analyzed 1287 atmospheric air samples from 15 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in 2023, Kyiv was included for the second time in the ranking of 30 world capitals with the best air quality indicators by the international service IQAir and took 22nd place out of 114 capitals.
