From January 4 until the end of the month, 44 Christmas tree collection points will be open in Kyiv, where trees will be collected for eco-friendly recycling to give them a "second life."
The trees will be chopped into wood chips, which will then be used for mulching, that is, to retain moisture in the soil and protect plants from frost, according to the Kyiv City State Administration.
It is noted that collection points for Christmas trees will operate in each district. If no opening hours are specified for the point, it means that Christmas trees can be brought at any time except during Kamdantian hours. You can also hand in a Christmas tree for recycling at forestries.
"From the collection points, Christmas trees and pines are sent to ecological disposal. There they are chopped into chips and then used to mulch the holes of young trees. This is done to preserve moisture in the summer and protect the roots of plants from freezing in the cold season," said the director of the Department of Environmental Protection and adaptation to climate change Oleksandr Vozniy of KMDA.
In the message, emphasize that only live trees without decorative ornaments are accepted for disposal.
