In the air of Kyiv during the week from May 1 to May 6, an excess of the average daily maximum allowable concentration of nitrogen dioxide by 5.4 times was detected.
Compared to the previous week, the level of nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde and sulfur dioxide pollution has slightly increased, according to the weekly report on air pollution from the Central Geophysical Observatory named after Boris Sreznevsky.
According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:
- 5.4-4.7 times – on Sklyarenko Street and Bessarabska Square (May 3-4);
- by 1.8-4.4 times – on Demiivska and Halytskaya squares, Obolonskyi, Nauka and Beresteyskyi avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin and Kaunaska streets.
Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:
- by 1.4-2.1 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Obolonski and Beresteyska avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
- no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).
Exceeding the MPC by average daily content formaldehyde :
- in 1.6-2.2 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Halytska squares, Obolonski and Beresteyski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets.
Specialists of the observatory collected and analyzed 1,536 samples of atmospheric air from 15 stationary stations.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kyiv, in the landscape reserve of local importance Zhukiv otsrov, a spontaneous landfill, traces of numerous fires and felling of trees were discovered. Also, despite the ban on the entry of vehicles, traces of cars, ATVs and motorcycles were found.
