Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleev said that Kyiv would receive €1 million for energy efficiency projects, including in kindergartens, schools, and hospitals.
The grant funds were attracted from the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO), Vechirniy Kyiv reports.
"International partners, in particular NEFCO, which provides grants, help us with the energy modernization of social institutions. After all, in addition to saving money, it is extremely important to create comfortable and safe conditions," said Panteleev.
He explained that in addition to technical measures, it is important to implement a dispatching system. It allows to remotely regulate heat supply and not to waste it. For example, during holidays or weekends, heating can be reduced to a technically acceptable minimum.
Mr. Panteleev added that Kyiv is actively implementing the mechanism of ESCO contracts, when private investment is involved in energy efficiency measures in a kindergarten or school.
"The investor returns the invested funds thanks to energy savings. That is, everyone is interested in the project having the highest possible energy efficiency. The investor returns the invested funds faster, and the school or kindergarten receives savings and comfortable conditions for children," he said, noting that this allows you to save budget funds for communal services in social institutions.
The article added that Kyiv has been cooperating with NEFCO since 2014. During this time, dozens of comprehensive and partial energy modernization projects have been implemented in social institutions.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that representatives of the World Economic Forum, Kyiv Digital, and Deloitte held a founding meeting, the key topic of which was the creation of the largest energy-independent hub in Central and Eastern Europe in Kyiv.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the European Commission has promulgated the updated Energy Efficiency Directive 2023/1791, which introduces the principle of "energy efficiency first" in energy and non-energy policies.
