Ukrainians are advised to avoid walking with an animal on asphalt, because it heats up strongly in the sun

Ukrainians were urged to help pets survive the summer heat more easily, because cats, dogs and other pets also suffer from high temperatures.

On its Facebook page, the Rivne Regional Center for Hydrometeorology has collected TOP-10 tips on how to help pets survive the heat.

  • A walk at the most comfortable time of the day;

The message advises to take dogs and cats for a walk when it is already, or still, not so hot. In addition, it is worth reducing the time of street walking and physical activity and come up with entertainment at home.

  • Give preference to walking on grass, not on asphalt;

It is noted that the asphalt can get very hot in the sun, and the animal walks on it with bare paws. Vegetated surfaces are much cooler.

  • Buy a cooling vest;
  • Never leave an animal in a closed car, even for a short time, even with an open window, not even in direct sunlight;
  • During the day, wet the pet's paws and face with cold water;

Experts advise not to wet the animal's head and back, because wet wool will cause more discomfort. However, you can use a cooled sheet or wet towel, or a special cooling mat.

  • Cool the premises;

In the message, it was noted that you should not open windows from which the animal could fall out.

  • Put bowls of cold water for the animal and freeze treats, for example, pate;
  • Do not shave the animal;

"Animals need fur, in particular, for cooling, and it also protects against sunburn. But it really won't hurt to thoroughly comb the animal from the excess undercoat," the report says.

  • Monitor the condition of the animal;

The message advises to watch for symptoms of heatstroke, namely shortness of breath, lethargy, anxiety, and indigestion. If they occur, the animal should be taken to a cool, shaded place, given cold water, and wet towels applied. After that, you need to contact a veterinarian.

  • Place water bowls for street animals.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kyiv sprayer cooling frames have been installed, which will help the citizens to bear the summer heat more comfortably.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, zoo activists have prepared tips for Ukrainians on how to start helping animals.
