Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, took part in a meeting of the regional commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergencies, which discussed how well the clean-up of the Seim and Desna rivers is going.
This was reported by the Ministry of Environment on Facebook.
The situation regarding the elimination of the consequences of the pollution that came from the territory of Russia is as follows:
- The movement of organic pollutants in the direction of Kyiv is gradually slowing down.
- Aeration measures carried out by the responsible services give a positive result. Therefore, Svitlana Grynchuk instructed the State Water Resources Agency in cooperation with OVA and other services to determine priority areas for the installation of additional equipment.
- On the Desna before Chernigov, measures to saturate the surface water with oxygen made it possible to increase the oxygen content by 2 times in 2 days at the aeration points. The color of the water is gradually returning to its natural state, foreign odors are almost absent.
- Pollution moves more slowly than the current of the Desna. There are no signs of pollution along the entire length of the river within Chernihiv and downstream to the village of Kolychivka.
- The State Water Agency and the State Eco-Inspection conduct enhanced monitoring of the state of pollution of the Seimas and Desna. The measurement results are updated daily on the "EkoZagroza" resource.
- It was possible to stop the mass death of fish. There are isolated cases of fish plague in the villages of Makoshino and Saltykova Divitsia in Chernihiv Oblast.
- Local authorities and activists are cleaning up the tributaries of the Desna so that fish can reach places where pollution has not reached.
At the beginning of last week, EcoPolitic already talked about the speed of advancement of polluting organic substances from the Seym Desnoy River and those activities, which are used by the State Water Agency and the regional military administration to stabilize the situation.
