In the Lviv region, the head of a quarry of one of the companies will be tried, who gave instructions to his subordinates to extract sand outside the land plot, determined by a special permit for the use of subsoil.

This was announced by the Information Policy Department of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

From August to November 2022, with the help of special equipment and employees subordinate to him, the person involved in the case extracted more than 19,000 cubic meters. m of sand outside one of the villages of Pustomytiv district of Lviv region.

With his illegal activity, the official caused more than UAH 21 million in damage to the state.

He is accused of illegal extraction of minerals of local importance on a large scale (Part 3 of Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "Violation of the Rules of Protection or Use of Subsoil"). The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for a period of 2 to 5 years or deprivation of liberty for the same period.

At the end of September, EcoPolitic reported that Kharkiv community is protesting against cutting down their forest for quarrying. Also in July, we reported on the case concerning the former director of one of the local associations of the Poltava Oblast, who without a special permit organized sand mining, causing more than UAH 105 million worth of damage.
