It is planned to attract more than half of the funding for the implementation of the relevant program from international donors

The Government has approved the Framework Concept of the State Program for Water Supply in Regions Affected by Military Operations until 2030. In the near future, the Cabinet will consider the Program for this Concept.

The program will be implemented on the territory of 9 regions: Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv and Kherson.

The strategic measures of the Program include 3 main tasks, which include 57 measures. Including:

  • construction of water supply systems;
  • construction, reconstruction and overhaul of hydrotechnical structures;
  • clearing of riverbeds and reservoirs;
  • attraction of groundwater for diversification of water supply sources.

According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets, the new program created on the basis of this Concept will provide for financing at the expense of:

  • international aid – 57%;
  • state – 37%;
  • local budgets – 6%.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers approved Water strategy of Ukraine until 2050 and an operational plan for its implementation until 2024. The strategy is designed to solve the main water problems of the country, in particular, equal access to high-quality drinking water, improvement of the ecological state of waters, prevention of droughts, floods, etc.

Also in February this year Ruslan Strelets said, that the national joint-stock company "Water of Ukraine" will be created in the country, which will provide transparent market mechanisms for business and affordable, high-quality water for people.
