The solution will facilitate environmental control and fulfillment of international obligations

At a meeting on environmental protection, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a resolution on the procedure for transmitting real-time emission monitoring results.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The new mechanism stipulates that plant operators will transmit data obtained from automated measurement systems directly to the Ministry of Economy and the State Environmental Inspection.

Who is affected by the changes:

1) Operators of facilities that operate under integrated environmental permits and are required to install equipment for monitoring emissions;

2) Operators of facilities that have voluntarily implemented such systems.

They must register automated measurement systems and measuring instruments in electronic form through the Unified Environmental Platform “EcoSystem.”

The transmission of emission monitoring results in real time is carried out automatically through the application programming interface of the Ministry of Economy.

Advantages:

1) For the state – improvement of the environmental control system and fulfillment of Ukraine's international obligations;

2) For business – fewer risks of misunderstandings with regulatory authorities, increased transparency and reputation of enterprises;

3) For the public – free access to environmental information on the level of industrial emissions.

We remind EcoPolitic readers that the government has adopted new rules for controlling industrial emissions. Ukraine now has an official list of hazardous substances that pollute the air, and violations will be punished.

The ministry explained that the introduction of the new rules brings Ukraine closer to EU environmental standards. Similar regulations have long been in place in European countries and have proven their effectiveness, as air pollution has decreased by 40-85% over the past 15 years.

We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the fact that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a new government action program and eight priorities for the Ministry of Economy. In particular, point 4 refers to environmental protection and the goals for its implementation.
